Carolina Velandia Hernández “Dance, Love, and Art”

Image

Dance, Love, and Art, 2024, Mixed Media,

Acrylic paint, recycled materials, and paper on canvas .

About the Work:

This piece is a celebration of movement and dance, intricately woven with Latin American heritage. Tango, salsa, bachata, cumbia, and folk music are all expressions of art through body movement. This piece is made primarily from recycled materials and paper, crafted in three dimensions to convey the powerful emotions and energy of dance. My spirit and art are deeply connected to dance, and this piece commemorates my love story and my husband, who embraced the challenge of learning Latin American dances. Dance is deeply important to us and one of our daughter’s first words was “bailar” , the Spanish word meaning to dance. The flower that comes from both dancers represents the spiritual connection between body and soul when moving.
