Jim Bailey talks about his experiences growing up in Sycamore as a young Black man. He was able to find community within Sycamore even as other children were of different races than his own.
Bailey fondly remembers the Dixie Inn as a place that served his community growing up in the 1960s. The inn was first run by Dixie Sims who eventually passed the restaurant down to his son, Allen Sims, Sycamore High School’s first Black male graduate. Upon Allen’s death, his wife Fannie took over the inn, eventually renaming it Fannie’s Dixie Inn.
