Alleys, 2019, Digital Collage
About the Work:
Alleys is a digital collage, combining the garage behind my childhood home – where games of street soccer would end as soon as the sun set down – and a stencil graffiti of the family that moved away. Pushed out from the first town they settled into after immigrating to a new country by the rest of the “throw-ups” (small graffiti with the purpose of territory claiming) seen in the piece. Fond memories of that time – mingle with questions about where old friends ended up, and self-reflection of who I would be today if we had stayed. “Alleys” represents all of the people traveling with light bags in search of a place they can permanently call home and the sacrifices parents make bringing young ones to a new country – the cheapest places also tend to be the most dangerous. Coming to a world of opportunities, also includes exposing your children to dangers you never knew.
About the Artist:
Ditza Montesinos has continued to create art for close to a decade – shifting from digital art in highschool (2016-2019), to traditional pen and paper (2019-2023), to a focus in songwriting and composing under the name (2024-present) “Ditza”. Future endeavors include the release of an album in Spanish and the continuation of artistic expression throughout all of life. Born in Mexico, raised in the United States, destined to reflect on dichotomies and question the perception of identity into perpetuity.
