Dessert and Dialogue

This evening of community-building, storytelling, and racial healing aims to strengthen allyship and foster deeper connections within the community. The event builds on the foundational work started by the Arts in Action project, a collaborative initiative between the DeKalb County History Center and Ellwood House.
Leading this discussion will be Jonelle Bailey, Executive Director of the Sycamore Park District, known for her leadership in community building and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) work. The evening will emphasize the importance of not just understanding DEIB principles but actively applying them in our daily lives. Participants will explore how small, everyday actions can contribute to creating a more inclusive and welcoming community for all.
“We are excited for this program as it offers a chance to connect with more residents of DeKalb County, particularly those who may not have seen their stories reflected in our previous exhibits,” said Michelle Donahoe, Executive Director of the History Center. “Our goal is to ensure that everyone in DeKalb County feels welcome at the History Center and sees their history preserved for future generations. This event is about moving beyond words and focusing on the tangible ways we can build a more connected and inclusive community.”
The “Dessert and Dialogue” series will continue quarterly, providing an ongoing platform for community connection and growth.
The event is free to attend, but advance registration is recommended. Register online at DeKalb County History Center’s website.
