While Diane Ashely and her family generally felt safe living in Sycamore, there was one experience she will never forget. Ashley’s daughter was visiting a friend’s home. She was told she needed to hide when the friend’s father unexpectedly came home early. She shared this story as part of our Black Oral History Project.
