Hope: The Great Migration


Jim Bailey talks about his family’s experience moving into Sycamore. Through his family’s connections within the community, they were able to move into Sycamore and find work during the Great Migration.

The Great Migration was a mass movement of about 6 million Black people moving north. Major cities like St. Louis, Chicago, and Detroit became home to many leaving the south, but cities all across the Midwest gained population, including Sycamore.
