Fear: Ku Klux Klan, Sycamore in the 1930’s

While the 1920s was the heyday of Klan activity throughout the country, there is still evidence of the Klan intimidating people for generations.  

On November 5, 1938, the Sycamore True Republican newspaper reported about a, “Fiery Cross Burned in North Avenue District.”  The article explains that the police and sheriff are “both are at a loss to understand what it all means,” while many people in the community clearly understood the message – you are not welcome here.
