Fear: Ku Klux Klan, Sycamore from 2016-2022

Unfortunately, the fear connected to the Klan is not part of our distant past. While DeKalb County is a much more diverse community than it was 100 years ago, there are still people who use the Klan to intimidate and strike fear into the hearts of others. Hopefully, the “Arts in Action” project is one way we can start the healing process in our communities, and do a better job of making our county a place where all people feel they belong.

This heavily-copied letter was received in the mail by two different Sycamore residents. One was received in September 2016, and the other in the summer of 2021. As it was sent to a person of color, it was meant as more of a threat than a true invitation to join the Klan.
