Art

Having conversations about race, critically thinking about the past using different perspectives, and beginning a healing process can be difficult. The History Center and Ellwood House Museum worked with nine artists to help start necessary conversations.

In looking at art, we are often comfortable hearing differing opinions without getting defensive or upset. For many people, these various viewpoints make art interesting and thought-provoking. For Arts in Action, the History Center and Ellwood House wanted to use this appreciation for discussing different perspectives as a framework to incorporate newly uncovered evidence that included stories about Black and Latino history to deepen the understanding of events in DeKalb County’s past.
